Juliet is the alias of Amsterdam-born musician Julia Schellekens (28). With her authentic voice and sharp lyrics, Juliet represents a recognizable sound within the Dutch popmusic industry. She sings about small pains and big thoughts. Her weekly comedic 30-second songs, which she records behind her piano, generated millions of views on social media and reached a wider audience. For six weeks in the summer of 2023, Juliet was the closing act of the Dutch tv-show ‘Oranjezomer’ on SBS6.
Juliet has been writing songs since she was ten years old, when she was allowed to take piano lessons. Her first introduction to the public was with the successful indie folk duo Sam & Julia. In 2020 she graduated from the pop program of the conservatory of Amsterdam. In that same year, Juliet released her first Dutch single ‘Raamkozijn’.
Frits Spits says the following about her songs;
“Sometimes there are those songs that make you stop the car for a moment. Lyrically very strong. Storytelling and musical. I think it’s impressive. Juliet, we need to remember her name”
In 2021 and 2022, Juliet released two EP’s “Naakt Door De Stad’ and ‘Voor Het Kind’, which were well received and with which she performed at Radio 1, 2, 5 and Tijd Voor Max. In 2022 she won the prestigious singer-songwriter competition ‘Mooie Noten’ and she reached the quarter-finals of the cabaret competition ‘Ik Ga Stuk’ on NPO 3.
This autumn, Juliet can be seen in the theater show ‘Unbeschreiblich Weiblich’ in which she will tour through the Netherlands.
